"Dollar Bill" Producer & Director William C. Thomas 1984 Westwood Village Cemetery.


William C. (Carroll) Thomas (August 11, 1903 - April 3, 1984) was an American film producer nicknamed "Dollar Bill." Partnered with producer William H. Pine at Paramount, they were collectively known as "The Dollar Bills" because none of their films ever lost money.



In 1942, Thomas produced and Pine directed the documentary WE REFUSE TO DIE, which was nominated for an Academy Award. Subsequently, they produced the documentary ALASKA HIGHWAY (1943).

According to the Internet Movie Database, Thomas produced 89 films from 1938 to 1978 including: MILLION DOLLAR LEGS (1939), DARK MOUNTAIN (1944), DISASTER (1948), TOPIC ZONE (1953), LUCY GALLANT (1955) and NIGHTMARE (1956).

William C. Thomas wrote the stories for the films THIS WAY PLEASE (1937), YOU'RE A SWEETHEART (1937), and COWBOY IN MANHATTAN (1943). He wrote the screenplays for RUN FOR COVER (1955) and CAT MURKIL AND THE SILKS (1976).



William C. Thomas died in Beverly Hills on April 3, 1984. He is interred at Westwood Village Cemetery in the Sanctuary of Devotion.
